First hole-in-one pays big for Local resident

Ace nets him $35,000 SUV

SHERWOOD — Local resident picked a good time to get his first hole-in-one.

Michael, a 31-year-old who describes himself as a weekend hacker, won a $35,000 Dodge Durango SUV on Saturday by getting an ace during the Habitat for Humanity golf outing at High Cliff Golf Course.

Michael used a utility wood to ace the designated hole, the 175-yard, par-3 No. 7.

“Everyone said it’s nice to get a hole-in-one sometime,’’ Michael said. “But usually when you get one, it’s let’s go have a round of drinks. This was, you won a truck.’’

Michael said there were plenty of witnesses to the ace, including a tournament official and the other members of his Coldwell Banker team.

“It landed right in front of the trap, bounced over it and rolled to the cup as straight as an arrow and dropped right in,’’ Michael said.

He and his teammates reacted quickly — and loudly.

“We were screaming and yelling and high-fiving for 3 or 4 minutes,’’ Michael said.

“Someone told us they could hear us two holes away. They said when they first heard us, they thought someone hit a birdie. But when we just kept yelling and screaming, they knew someone must have won the truck.’’
